This was designed in collaboration with Wally Renne of the MOD Institute. This gauge is used to aid in determining Vertical Dimension of Occlusion by measuring the distance from the Lip Commisure to the Lateral Canthus of the eye. Once that is found and the nut is used to secure the measurement, you can flip the device around to measure from below the nose to the bottom of the chin. In the case of an edentulous patient, you would want them to open until the chin has reach the bottom component. This will provide you an esthetically ideal starting point to trial a new VDO.
